Beautiful Struggles Pulls Inspo From Cape Town for Breakout 3rd Drop
Soccer star Danny Williams has always been an original. Everything about his story is unique and almost perfectly juxtaposed. There's no better teacher for art than perspective, and nothing provides that better than juxtaposed experience.
He's bi-racial and a dual national, the product of an African-American father and German mother. The pro soccer baller from the USA National team played in the top leagues across Europe, plying his trade in the midfield in both the Premier League & for Hoffenheim in Germany's top flight while crafting the sketches, concepts, and inspo pull that would become his amazing line.
Even the name of his line is brilliantly juxtaposed- Beautiful Struggles.
Williams has worked at a feverish pace over the past 12 months, crafting three collections for Struggles that run the gamut from 90's hiphop to the latest "THIRD DROP" - somewhere between non-binary futura oversized, African street style & Ivy League heritage.
SS2021 collection draws its inspiration from the city of Cape Town and the surrounded nature.
An earthy taupe resembles the monumental surface of the Table Mountains while white and light blue reflect False Bay. This is completed with a black portraying the depth of the two colliding oceans - the great Indian and Atlantic Ocean.
Relaxed silhouettes are combined with classical elements and textures. While cozy wool comforts the body, light cotton caters to the warmer temperatures. Heavy sweat and jersey pieces are accompanied by workwear styles in the form of overshirts and cargo pants, followed by crêpe trousers and a striped Oxford shirt.
