Samuel Hubbard was founded in 1930 by Samuel J. Katz, and started as a small children’s shoe factory in Rochester, New Hampshire. Samuel spent his life working with shoes along with his son, Saul Katz, who entered the business in 1943. The Hubbard Shoe business eventually grew to 900 employees and two factories. Their shoes quickly became known for their fit, comfort, and durability. The family-owned business prides itself on making shoes with attention to the smallest detail.
The company closed its doors in 1973 along with several other businesses, as shoemaking transitioned to being primarily off-shore for cheaper labor markets. The Katz family began sourcing their shoes from several small factories in Brazil, where the Katz family taught the employees to craft these quality shoes with the same level of detail, while supervising the products being made. This new business became the Rockport Company. Building on that 85 year tradition, Samuel Hubbard was born in 2014 as a family business once again.
Samuel Hubbard continues to excel in the art of shoemaking, as they offer shoes in the highest quality with the finest leathers from around the world. Samuel Hubbard regards fit and comfort as being of paramount importance, and the company continues to work with some of the finest shoemakers in the world, designing shoes that people love.
Current CEO and founder, Bruce Katz said, “Over the years my father often said that, ‘We make friends with our shoes, one pair at a time’. We hope that you will agree and that you will enjoy many great walks in your Hubbards.”
