Kanye's 10th studio album, DONDA is named after his mother Donda West who passed in 2007 right as her son's star really began to ascend.
While the world still awaits the full work's release on all streaming platforms later today, West & company took over Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta to debut the album in front of 42,000 fans.
In a bizarre, wordless, solo performance, West strolled the giant soccer turf that covered in white fabric while every song played over the loudspeakers.
The crowd was moved to tears when West's late mother's voice came on to introduce the album, sampled from a previous recording when she was still here & modified with vocal AI technology.
The Wall Street Journal said “I’m losing my family,” Mr. West could be heard singing repeatedly on one of the more than a dozen tracks about family, loss and religion that were played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium—an apparent reference to his recent divorce from his wife of nearly seven years, Kim Kardashian. For much of the night, Mr. West remained relatively still atop a white tarp in the venue, though he also kneeled at times and danced at others. Overall, Mr. West’s minimalist presentation conveyed a sense of isolation and melancholy. In a surprise, Ms. Kardashian was in attendance for the premiere."
